WELCOMING CEREMONY OF UPM STUDENTS IN YSU

On Thursday 14 January 2015, housed in Ramah Tamah room 2nd floor, Faculty of Economics (FE), Yogyakarta State University (YSU), a welcoming ceremony was held to initiate this year sit-in program of students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in YSU. There are 20 students, accompanied by one supervising lecturer namely Dr. Yap Wing Fen. The agenda was opened by Director of the Office of International Affairs and Partnerships (OIAP) YSU, Dr.-Ing. Satoto E. Nayono, M.Eng., M.Sc. In delivering his speech, he uses Bahasa Indonesia, as he believes the aim of Sit-in program is to get acquaintance and learn Indonesian language as well as the culture.

He then allowed Dr. Yap Wing Fen to speak in Malay in delivering his speech. Dr. Yap Wing Fen expressed his gratitude for good and warm acceptance by YSU. He also asserted his intention to have follow-up programs after the sit-in, which is part of student mobility.

Next, there was presentation regarding to the sit-in program by staff person of OIAP, Fitri Alfarisy, S.Pd. This session is purposed to give depiction of the programs to be followed by the students in YSU for 2 weeks to go.

After brief explanation from Fitri Alfarisy, S.Pd, there was closing, continued with photo session. Then, there was also other presentation delivered by Dr.-Ing. Satoto E. Nayono, M.Eng., M.Sc. He explained several facts and general information about Yogyakarta; for example, there is time gap between Malaysia and Yogyakarta.

Yogyakarta as the 2nd tourism destination in Indonesia and as city of education, always becomes such an attraction in the heart of the visitors. Students of UPM agree with the statement and expressed their intention to get around Yogyakarta for visiting the city landmarks, including the well-known beaches. In the end of the session, Satoto expressed his hope that this year sit-in could run well with full of joy. (Tiara)
