Learning to Prevent and Treat Diabetes without Drugs

Based on data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) that in 2021 around 19.46 million people in Indonesia had diabetes. The data is a clear reminder of how much we need to raise awareness about the dangers and solutions to diabetes. Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), through a National Seminar with the theme "Health Education towards Healthy UNY and Alumni without Medicine Free From Diabetes," tries to answer this question. This seminar was held both offline and online on April 9, 2022. Around 1040 participants participated online.

The seminar presented Keynote Speaker, the Minister of Youth and Sports  Zainudin Amali, who was represented by Dr. Jonni Mardizal, MM., as Acting Secretary to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia. Jonni Mardizal in his presentation entitled "The Role of Educational Institutions in Preparing Healthy Young Generation of Indonesia Without Drugs." explained that the role of educational institutions, especially universities, is essential in improving and protecting students' health. "Universities can use their influence within the community to improve the health of youth and society at large," he added. In addition, the university also plays a role in graduating students who will later become professionals and policymakers in the health sector.

Dr. Fitri Rahmawati, M.Pd., presented "Regulation of Family Diet for Diabetes Mellitus Prevention," said that one way to prevent Diabetes Mellitus is to eat a balanced diet (55% carbohydrates, 15% protein, and 25% fat). ). Fitri Rahmawati also added that physical activity such as sports is essential for at least 30 minutes every day. In addition, we need enough rest, stress control, and a healthy environment. In addition, avoiding any tobacco and alcohol consumption may give better health opportunities.

Eko Yudo Tamtomo from "Miracle of Breath Indonesia" presented "Healing Diabetes without Drugs and Herbs with Breathing Exercises."  According to Eko, breathing exercises can lower blood sugar levels after reading various literacy and research and practicing daily. People with diabetes have limited food choices and limited mind management. Therefore, with the right way of thinking and the proper diet, people with diabetes can recover completely. In the last session of this seminar, Eko invited all the present participants to practice breathing  exercise together. (Khairani Faizah, Tj.Lak)
