Klaten – Students from the 2024 cohort of the Bachelor's Program in Accounting Education at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), recently organized an educational program titled "Youth Talk: Gender Equality" in collaboration with the youth community of Isamtiga Mosque in Klaten. The initiative reflects the students' commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality by raising young people's awareness of the importance of equal rights and opportunities for all individuals.

The program was initiated by a student team consisting of Apriana Nur Azizah, Siti Rofika Azhara, Maisie Calista Elysia, Rizki Ganda Irfando, Ernawati, and Fita Rokhmatun Munjiyah, under the supervision of Nur Hidayah, S.Sos., M.Si. Through an engaging and interactive educational approach, the students created a discussion forum that encouraged adolescents to explore gender equality issues in ways that were relevant to their daily lives.

The "Youth Talk: Gender Equality" program aimed to increase participants' understanding of the importance of fostering an environment that respects diversity, challenges gender stereotypes, and promotes equal opportunities free from discrimination. The learning materials were delivered in a practical and accessible manner, ensuring that the discussions were both easy to understand and closely connected to the participants' everyday experiences.

Nur Hidayah, the faculty supervisor, explained that the program represents an implementation of contextual learning that encourages students to engage directly with society.

"Students are expected not only to learn in the classroom but also to contribute actively by providing solutions to social issues within their communities," she said.

In addition to presentations and discussion sessions, the program featured a variety of educational games centered on gender equality. These activities encouraged participants to collaborate, express their opinions confidently, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Through these interactive exercises, participants learned that every individual possesses equal rights, opportunities, and potential regardless of gender.

Participants showed strong enthusiasm throughout the event. The interactive and enjoyable atmosphere encouraged young people to share their perspectives openly while developing a deeper appreciation for mutual respect, inclusivity, and healthy social relationships.

For the student organizers, the program served not only as a community engagement initiative but also as an opportunity to strengthen their social awareness, communication skills, and ability to apply the educational knowledge they have gained during their studies. For the participants, the activity was expected to foster a more open-minded perspective and inspire them to contribute to building safe, inclusive, equitable, and respectful communities.

Through this initiative, UNY's Accounting Education students demonstrated their commitment to advancing SDG 5 (Gender Equality) while contributing to the development of an inclusive, tolerant, and socially responsible younger generation.
