Facing growing concerns over plastic pollution, especially the persistent waste of agricultural mulch plastic, a student team from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) launched an innovative research project under the Student Creativity Program (PKM). Their project seeks a natural solution to degrading plastic waste that is often left in landfills or burned after use.

A proud moment unfolded for Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) as the NanoBotato team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) clinched the top award at the 14th UNY Science and Engineering Fair (UNYSEF) in 2025. Their groundbreaking project explored the use of potato-derived nanomaterials, demonstrating how simple local resources can be transformed into cutting-edge technological solutions with promising applications in water purification and sustainable agriculture.

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) students have developed an innovative solution to tackle industrial batik wastewater by transforming discarded orange peel into an effective bioadsorbent. The team, led by Jalu Bahtiar Baharudin from the Biology program, conducted exhaustive laboratory tests to extract pectin from Citrus sinensis peel—identifying its strong binding properties for harmful dye compounds commonly found in batik wastewater. 

A group of creative students from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has found a way to turn everyday waste into an environmental solution. A group of students from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has created SteriLiz, a natural antibacterial spray made from water hyacinth, a plant often considered a nuisance. A new culinary innovation emerges from Indonesia: cinnamon rolls made from yellow sweet potato. This beloved pastry, known for its enticing cinnamon aroma, now incorporates a local ingredient rich in health benefits, delivering a delightful and nutritious experience.

After achieving success in the 2023 Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI) by bringing home 1st place in the Racing Plane Division and 2nd and 3rd place in the Technology Development Division, the Universitas negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) Flying Robot Team is now preparing to compete in KRTI 2024. However, this time there is something special-UNY is not only participating as a participant, but also hosting this prestigious event which will be held from September 12 to 18, 2024 at the Faculty of Vocational Studies UNY and Gading Airfield, Gunung Kidul.

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) is ready to host the 2024 Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI), which will be held on September 12-18, 2024. Taking place at the Faculty of Vocational Studies Gunungkidul Campus and Gading Airfield, Playen, this prestigious event is expected to be a stage to showcase students' best innovations in the development of flying robot technology. Collaborating with TNI-AU to provide airfield facilities, UNY is committed to presenting a competition that will spur creativity and research in the field of aerial robotics.

From July 2 to 6, 2024, a global community of student innovators will gather at Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara to take part in the prestigious Shell Eco-marathon Asia Pacific and Middle East 2024. The competition is a platform specifically designed to promote green vehicle technology, with the main objective of encouraging innovation to address global climate crisis issues.

Five students of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta(UNY) have successfully processed tempe into toddler biscuits that are ready for consumption. The five students are Siti Nursipa Wulida (Culinary Education); Nur Evirda Khosyiati (Culinary Education); Rifki Refiyandi (Elementary School Teacher Education); Putri A. Panggabean (Accounting); and Syifaun Nuha A (Management). The toddler biscuits were named Bistbox.
