On Saturday, June 7, 2025, the Rectorate of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) held the annual Qurban (sacrifice) ceremony in the parking area of the UNY Auditorium. This year, the university sacrificed three cows and three goats, marking an occasion woven into religious reflection and community service for Idul Adha. To strengthen disaster preparedness at the community level, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), through its Center for Work Safety, Health, and Environment (Pusat K3L), joined hands with the Indonesian Fire Safety Professional Society (MPK2I) to train residents of Kampung Mas Bumijo Kulon in fire prevention and emergency response. Held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, this initiative was particularly focused on empowering women—especially homemakers—to take the lead as first responders in local fire emergencies.
A group of students from the Department of Nonformal Education at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) initiated a community empowerment program titled “From Waste to Blessings: Optimizing Circular Economy Empowerment for Widows through Eco-Friendly Prayer Bead Innovation.” Implemented from February to May 2025, the program was led by Rubiyantiningsih, Fitri Padmawati, Sabrinasurya Maharani, and Dinda Nurlisa Septiana.
A team of Community Service Program (KKN) students from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has successfully implemented initiatives aimed at enhancing the welfare of residents in Pedukuhan Timpang, Gebangan Hamlet, Pengasih Village, Kulon Progo Regency. Led by Muhammad Aji Farid Fadila, with Anindya Nari Dewati as a resource person, the group focused on programs that promote food independence and community creativity.
On February 17, 2025, students from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted a workshop in Kwangen Village to teach the traditional Indonesian textile art of jumputan. This initiative aimed to preserve local culture and empower the community by providing practical skills that could lead to new business opportunities.
Sendangsari Village in Pengasih, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, recently witnessed the initiation of the "1,000 Telang Plant Movement," spearheaded by a Community Service team from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Gadgets have become integral to children's daily lives, serving as tools for play, entertainment, and learning. However, excessive gadget use can negatively impact children's social, emotional, and academic development. This concern was highlighted by Argent Prianda Dewanta, a student and President of BEM Fishipol UNY, during a community outreach program in Nangsri, Srihardono, Pundong, Bantul.
Margoagung Village, known as a cultural pioneer village, continues to maintain the tradition of bamboo crafts that have been passed down from generation to generation. However, in this modern era, innovation is needed to ensure its sustainability and increase competitiveness. Responding to these challenges, the PPK Team of Ormawa Haska JMF FMIPA UNY came up with the Bamboo Craft Diversification and Digital Marketing Program to help the craftsmen in this village not only maintain, but also develop their bamboo crafts.
UNY celebrates its 60th anniversary with various activities, one of which is a healthy walk and social service in Kulon Progo on May 5, 2024. "The activities that we hold are part of UNY's commitment and dedication in the framework of the 60th Anniversary of UNY. Let us use this activity as a momentum in exploring and the first step of the golden village program that will be held for the next one year in the Terbah and Serut Pengasih hamlets. Through this program, UNY will prioritize Pengasih Village in various activities such as PKM, research, and institutional collaboration.
The community service team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNY seeks to encourage sustainable organic waste management. One of the efforts comes through counseling activities on the utilization of Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae as part of organic waste management and strengthening food security in Dukuh Serut, Kulon Progo district. in the activity held on May 1, 2024, there were 25 participants from the Women Farmers Group (KWT) Dukuh Serut.
