On Monday, June 16, 2025, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) officially appointed 139 lecturers as Civil Servants (PNS) during a formal ceremony held in the university's Main Assembly Hall. The event, led by UNY Rector Prof. Dr. Sumaryanto, M.Kes., AIFO, included the oath-taking ceremony and the presentation of appointment letters (SK PNS). Witnessed by vice rectors, deans, vice deans, and four religious leaders, the occasion marked a significant step in the academic journey of the newly appointed lecturers.
The lecturers come from across UNY’s faculties: 4 from the Faculty of Education (FIP), 63 from the Faculty of Language, Arts, and Culture (FBSB), 5 from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), 20 from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), 24 from the Faculty of Engineering (FT), 12 from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), 9 from the Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV), and 2 from the Faculty of Psychology (FP). This wide representation reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening academic capacity across all disciplines.
During the oath-taking, each lecturer pledged their service according to their respective religious beliefs, accompanied by religious leaders from Islam, Christianity, Catholicism, and Hinduism—underscoring UNY’s strong commitment to religious diversity and inclusivity within its academic environment.
In his address, Rector Prof. Sumaryanto reaffirmed the university’s guiding vision that education is a cornerstone of civilization. Quoting senior academic Prof. Suyanto, Ph.D, he reminded the lecturers: “Education is a civilizational investment.” He encouraged them to pursue further education, particularly doctoral and professorial degrees, and to uphold the principles of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi: education, research, and community service. “Let us work together to improve the quality of higher education at UNY,” he urged.
With the addition of these 139 civil servant lecturers, UNY is optimistic about further strengthening both the quality and quantity of its academic programs. This development is expected to enhance UNY’s reputation as a forward-looking, innovative, and globally competitive institution committed to excellence and inclusivity.
