Improving the quality of education, research, and publication through international cooperation

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNY, Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono, Ph.D., on the sidelines of his cooperation visit to universities in the Philippines, said that establishing cooperation with foreign universities is very important. "This is so that the quality of our education, research, and publications can be on par with world partner universities," said Herman. (07/09/2023).

On this occasion, two Philippine universities that became the destination of cooperation were the University of the Philippines Diliman and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. In addition to the Dean of FT UNY, also participating in the UNY delegation were the Director of the Directorate of Research and Community Service of UNY, Prof. Dr. Samsul Hadi, MT, and FT UNY lecturers, Suprapto, Ph.D. and Muslikhin, Ph.D.

At the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD), Manila City, the Faculty of Engineering of UNY established cooperation with the College of Engineering. The UNY delegation was welcomed by Dean Maria Antonia N. Tanchuling, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Alumni and Institutional Linkages Eric Augustus J Tingatinga, Ph.D. and Director of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Lew Andrew, Ph.D..

The Faculty of Engineering UNY and the College of Engineering UPD agreed to collaborate in education and research. In education, both faculties agreed to implement double degree programs between relevant study programs, visiting professor programs, student exchange, joint supervision, and doctoral studies. While in the field of research, it was agreed to carry out joint research, joint author, and joint conference.

At the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), Cagayan de Oro City, the Faculty of Engineering of UNY established cooperation with the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA). The UNY delegation was warmly welcomed by USTP President Prof. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, Ph.D., at the Chali Beach Resort & Conference Center dinner.

The next day, the UNY delegation discussed with the USTP team of the Vice Chancellor, Vice President, Dean CEA Lory Liza D. Bulay-og, Ph.D., and CEA faculty members. Between UNY and USTP, there is already an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding). Still, its implementation at the faculty level has not been formalized as an MoA (Memorandum of Agreement). However, there have been various collaborative activities between lecturers in both faculties in the form of international collaborative research.

In this discussion, both parties agreed to increase the cooperation that has been running, such as joint research and writing. Furthermore, various programs such as double degree programs between relevant departments, visiting professor programs, student exchange, joint supervision and doctoral studies will be implemented. Dean Lory welcomed the visit and cooperation. He will agree to visit UNY to sign the MoA with the Faculty of Engineering UNY and as a speaker at ICERI in November 2023.
