UNY’s “Swara Wadhana” Student Choir Sweeps National and International Awards in Early 2026

The “Swara Wadhana” Student Choir (PSM) of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has once again brought honor to its alma mater by securing a series of prestigious titles at both the national and international levels. In a remarkable opening to 2026, the choir emerged as the First Prize winner at the Voice Fest Erlangga 2026 and was subsequently crowned Grand Champion at the Saint Angela International Choir Festival 2026.

The choir's national triumph took place at the Voice Fest Erlangga Choir Competition, held from February 7–8, 2026, at the historic De Majestic in Bandung. Competing against top-tier university and community choirs from across Indonesia, PSM Swara Wadhana UNY claimed first place with an impressive score of 91.11. This achievement serves as a testament to the team’s musical quality, vocal technique, and the cohesion fostered through disciplined, long-term preparation. With powerful musical interpretations and a captivating stage presence, the choir garnered praise from both the adjudicators and the audience, reflecting the unwavering dedication of all members, conductors, and management in maintaining high artistic standards.

Continuing their winning streak, PSM Swara Wadhana UNY competed in the international arena at the Saint Angela International Choir Festival 2026, held from February 9–14 at the Santa Angela Campus in Bandung. The choir secured a historic sweep of honors, being named the 1st Winner Grand Champion after winning the Folklore Category with a score of 91.07 and the Mixed Young Adult Choir Category with a score of 88.85. These accolades solidify PSM Swara Wadhana UNY’s position as a highly competitive student choir on the global stage, marking a significant milestone in their musical excellence and artistic maturity.

Lukas Gunawan Arga Rakasiwi, M.Pd., the Faculty Advisor for PSM Swara Wadhana UNY, expressed his deep appreciation for these accomplishments, emphasizing that these victories are the fruit of a long journey driven by commitment and discipline. He stated that the achievement is a result of hard work, consistent practice, and mutual trust among the members. He further expressed his hope that this success would serve as a motivation to continue creating, maintaining musical quality, and further elevating the reputation of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta on both national and international stages.
