Student Creativity Unit of Entrepreneurship, Yogyakarta State University (YSU) has just won the second place in Plan Competition 2016 organized by Darussalam Gontor University (UNIDA) (11/5). The team consisted of Ahmad Agung Masykuri (Geography Education 2013), Elshandra Gita Valerina Yahya (Natural Science Education 2014), and Tyas Budiarti (Craft Education 2014).
The event brought the theme of “Empowering Local Potential in the Face of Global Economy”. The leader of the team, Ahmad Agung Masykuri, stated that the competition was really tight. “All the teams proposed excellent business ideas so that in the beginning it was quite hard to know who would be the Big 3. Then, alhamdulillah YSU team was one of them and could gain the 2nd position.
In the event, YSU team was competing with team of Jember University, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Islamic University of Indonesia (UII), dan Trunojoyo University Madura.
The YSU team proposed a work entitled “Tyame Craft, Business in Woven Fabric as A Means of Promoting Indonesian Culture”. The idea was encouraged by abundant production of woven fabrics in Klaten and Yogyakarta that is not balanced with fair price. Moreover, the woven fabrics craftsmen are mostly older people aged 50 and above. This reflects the low interest of young generation to continue preserving such crafting tradition. Eventually, this motivates the business innovation of Tyame Craft
The idea was to use woven fabrics as the materials for making crafts to boost the selling price of woven fabrics. It was expected to increase productivity and welfare in the society. In addition, this business idea could help promote woven patterns and features belonging to Klaten and Yogyakarta. (Masykuri)
