YSU Students’ Teaching Practice at Sekolah Indonesia, Singapore

Rr. Pramesti Vidya Bhakti Eva (Elementary School Teacher Education Department), Dinda Dara Iswari (English Education Department), Shaquila Awalia Fajri (Physical Exercise Education Department), and Alifia Revan Prananda (Informatics Engineering Education) have completed their teaching practice program at Sekolah Indonesia, Singapore. The program is a biannual program held by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Singapore in collaboration with YSU.
They were selected through administration selection and interview on February 2015. From February 15 to May 18, the students taught the elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school students based on their fields of study.
During the program, they also joined “A Tapestry of A Sacred Music” in Esplanade by performing Saman Dance from Aceh and International Friendship Day in the Alexandra Primary School. For their community service program, they conducted a first aid training for domestic workers, taught Indonesian language in Victoria School, and many other visits to places in Singapore with the students.
“When teaching the students, I was astonished by the tolerance among the students. Even students with special needs are in the same classroom with other students,” Eva said.
Shaquila then added her impression during the program. “Thanks to YSU and the Education Attache of the Republic of Indonesia for the opportunities given to us,” she said.
