UNY Student Honored by Sleman Police for Sign Language Interpretation Dedication

Khairil Mursyidin, a student in the Special Education program at the Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) UNY, received an award from the Sleman Police Department for his contributions as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI). The award was presented by the Sleman Police Chief during a formal ceremony, acknowledging Khairil’s dedication to assisting police communications during press conferences for people with disabilities.

Deputy Chief AKBP Darno, SH., SIK expressed appreciation for Khairil’s role, emphasizing the importance of his volunteer work as an SLI and his contributions to accessibility. Khairil has served as a volunteer in FIPP’s special education lab and frequently interprets for events involving the disabled community. Since being contacted by the Sleman Police public relations team in his seventh semester, Khairil has consistently volunteered for these press conferences. Grateful for the recognition, Khairil expressed hope that his work will inspire others to support people with special needs in their communities.
