Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) marked National Education Day on May 2, 2025, with a meaningful ceremony held at the UNY Rectorate courtyard. Themed “Universal Participation for Quality Education for All,” the event brought together lecturers, education staff, and student representatives to celebrate the spirit of learning and progress. Leading the ceremony, UNY Rector Prof. Sumaryanto read a speech from the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, who emphasized the importance of collaboration. “Collaboration is the key,” he noted, highlighting the need for cooperation between governments, universities, industries, teachers, and parents to build a strong foundation for education.
Prof. Brian Yuliarto also outlined five main principles that the Ministry is committed to achieving: focusing on real-world impact, ensuring research addresses practical problems, leveraging science for social and environmental solutions, bringing research benefits to communities, and maintaining transparency and accountability. “Educational transformation cannot wait,” he stated. “What we achieve in education today shapes Indonesia's future.” His message underscored the belief that quality education is only possible when all stakeholders work hand in hand.
The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of UNY students who have excelled in various fields. Awards were given in four categories: Reasoning, Arts, Sports, and Special Interests. Among the awardees were Oktiana Prabawati (Biology Education) for reasoning, Desiderius Carmenico Ardi Saputra (English Education) for arts, Lisnawanto Putra Aditya (Sports Coaching Education) for sports, and Dzaki Rambe (Economics Education) for special interests.
