On May 8, 2025, the Department of Social Studies Education at FISIP UNY, in collaboration with the Social Studies Teacher Working Group (MGMP IPS) of Salatiga City, organized a workshop titled "Implementing Deep Learning for Innovation in Social Studies Education in the Digital Era." Held at the auditorium of SMP Negeri 2 Salatiga, the event brought together numerous Social Studies teachers from various schools across Salatiga. The workshop aimed to serve as a professional development platform, equipping educators with transformative teaching approaches to meet the challenges of 21st-century education.
The event was officially opened by the Chairperson of MGMP IPS Salatiga, Mrs. Mushlihatun Syarifah, M.Pd. In her opening remarks, she expressed high appreciation for the initiative and hoped that participating teachers would gain new insights into developing Social Studies instruction that emphasizes not only knowledge acquisition but also the cultivation of critical, creative, and reflective thinking skills among students.
The workshop featured Prof. Dr. Saliman, M.Pd., a lecturer from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, as the keynote speaker. In his inspiring presentation, Prof. Saliman highlighted the importance of pedagogical transformation to meet contemporary educational needs. He advocated for the application of deep learning in teaching, emphasizing its relevance in shaping students' character and competencies for the 21st century. He encouraged teachers to continually innovate in designing learning experiences that are adaptive to technological advancements and the evolving needs of today's learners.
Following the keynote address, the workshop continued with sessions led by three lecturers from the Department of Social Studies Education at FISIP UNY: Rusdya Nasyita Rahman, M.Pd., Dr. Riko Septiantoko, M.Pd., and Dr. Yumi Hartati, M.Pd. These sessions covered topics such as planning, implementing, and assessing deep learning in Social Studies education. Each session concluded with interactive discussions, where participants actively engaged by asking questions and sharing experiences related to implementing deep learning strategies in their respective schools.
