To promote financial literacy from an early age, Arifa Nisaut Taqiyya, a student of Economic Education at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), initiated a saving habits training program during her community service (KKN) in collaboration with the local youth group in Canan Village, Wedi, Klaten. The program aimed to help children understand the value of saving and managing money, moving away from the outdated mindset of spending beyond means.
The training, held at the KKNR-9986 post, used lectures and discussions to engage both children and their parents. Arifa emphasized the importance of parental involvement, hoping that parents would set a positive example at home. Topics included the difference between needs and wants, as well as the long-term benefits of saving regularly.
Despite challenges such as distractions from nearby community activities, the sessions were well-received and successfully delivered. The initiative reflects UNY’s commitment to instilling practical life skills through student-led community engagement.
