UNY facilitated the online China-Indonesia TVET (Technical and Vocational Education Training) Workshop recently. TVET is education and training that provides job knowledge and skills. TVET uses formal, non-formal and informal learning and is recognized as an important medium for social equity, inclusion and sustainable development.

"Technical and vocational education is a new role in the development of human resources, skills and ethics," said Wang Yongli, Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE).

During this pandemic, China and Indonesia have urgent requests for socio-economic development. China has the largest vocational education in the world with thousands of institutions with millions of students learning about life and skills training. He said that vocational schools provide the community with knowledge and ability to overcome poverty because 13% of students come from the lower classes. In China, vocational education can reduce 19 million poverty in the last 8 years. Wang Yongli hopes that this workshop can be a means of learning and exchanging experiences in innovation and technology.

“Efforts to improve the quality of vocational education are not only the responsibility of the government. We also need the contribution of the private sector, community and society as the main players in advancing education," said Saryadi, Director of Partnership and Harmonization of Business and Industry at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Beijing, Djauhari Oratmangun, thanked CEAIE, UNY and the universities involved and hoped that this workshop would run smoothly and successfully. Vice Chancellor for Planning and Cooperation UNY Siswantoyo hopes that this activity can improve the development of vocational education in Indonesia.
