“The Office of International Affairs and Partnerships (OIAP) is the spearhead of internationalization in YSU. There are plenty of programs held by OIAP, requiring many talents and new innovations. Hence, we highly need the help of students.” says Dr.–Ing Satoto E. Nayono, M. Eng., M.Sc., as Head of OIAP while opening workshop “Capacity Building and Effective Communication Training For YSU Tutors and Student Volunteers” in Senate Meeting Room, YSU Rectorate Building on Friday (4/12/2015).

Effective communication between tutors and student volunteers is crucial when working with colleges, seniors, or foreigners. Sometimes, both tutors and student volunteers have to receive plenty of requests within tight schedule. This kind of situations, if treated well, can be a medium to sharpen their soft skills, such as communication, team work, and leadership.

To meet the need of improving personal capability, Dr.–Ing Satoto E. Nayono, M. Eng., M.Sc. explained through a fabel about a competition between a rabbit and a turtle. He told both rabbit and turtle lacked in some stages of the competition. Previously, the rabbit was lost because it felt asleep during the race. However, when having to cross a river, the turtle could help and cooperate with the rabbit, so both the rabbit and turtle could reach the edge of the river. “Slow and steady is good, but it’s better if you could work together so you could work fast and steadily. In addition, you might also sometimes need to work with your partners in accomplishing jobs with different challenges” reveals Dr.–Ing Satoto E. Nayono, M. Eng., M.Sc. during presentation session with the topic “Leadership and Teamwork” .  (Laksa)
