Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta is preparing as a World Class Education University (UKKD) in 2025, according to the target in the World University ranking of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) (WUR), QS WUR is an international survey institution (www.topuniversities.com) that seeks to rank universities in this world.
Wednesday (31/10), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta again received the honour of receiving Mandy Mok. Singapore branch chief executive officer or QS ASIA leader and Prof. Dr. Nordin Bin Yahaya (Vice Rector for International Affairs, UTM, Malaysia). Present at the occasion, UNY Rector, Vice-Rectors, Dean and Chairperson of the Institute, Post-graduate Director, UNY Senate Members, UNY Professor Council Members, KUIK Team and UNY WCU Team.
On this occasion Mandy Mok provided an understanding of the indicators of the QS World University Ranking or WUR as an effort to internalize UNY. QS World University Rankings is the annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Mandy provides information about the assessment criteria carried out by QS in determining ranking. The criteria in question are: (1) Academic Reputation, (2) Reputation of Labour Users, (3) Comparison of Student Lecturers, (4) Number of Excerpts of Lecturers, and (5) Number of International Students. Of the five criteria, according to Mandy, the most important is Academic Reputation, with Reputation factors contributing almost 40 percent in determining the World University Ranking.
Mandy and Yahaya also advised that the Reputation Strategy was supported by brand formation and marketing. UNY must make every effort to form a trademark affiliated with education. He also provided well-established examples, such as universities in Malaysia which began to expand marketing in international media and airlines.
It is difficult to conclude that UNY must understand diversity, the usefulness of ranking systems and their inherent limitations and weaknesses. All rankings are different, and each measure different indicators differently; there is no rating that can describe the quality of a university comprehensively. However, ranking is useful for many stakeholders and selects a ranking system that fits potential needs and mission.
It is expected that after this socialization, all academicians can take part in realizing UNY's vision to become a world-class education university. (Andre)
