During the golden age of child development, parents try to stimulate a child with a variety of general knowledge. How to introduce children to the unlimited variety of worlds? The stimulation process must certainly be done in a fun way, one of the option is using a picture story book. Such statement is given by Kordula Schulze from Muenster University, Germany in front of UNY Graduate School students from Primary Education study program and UNY bachelor students from English Literature study Program.

Kordula explained in the “Workshop on Literacy and Children Literature” that you need to pay attention to ethical, moral and suitability aspects of the theme when making a picture book content. Picture book may give more meaningful experience than words. Through images, children will learn to interpret stories and understand them. “Children may learn things that they haven’t seen in real life. This is one of the reasons why picture story book important to be introduced to children as early as possible,” She added.

Accompanied by Dr. Widyastuti Purbani, M.A who is also in charge of the Children Literature course, Kordula added some of the benefits of picture book stories for early childhood or elementary school children. A Picture book stories is a good means to start the first step for a fun learning, nurture reading interest, hone children's curiosity, and help children express themselves. . (ant; Tj.Lak)
