Bantul – Students participating in the Off-Campus Learning Program (PLK) at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) organized a cybercrime awareness program in collaboration with the Bambanglipuro Sector Police (Polsek Bambanglipuro) to educate the public about various forms of cybercrime, as well as effective strategies for prevention and response.
The initiative was organized by the Aksara Bhakti PLK UNY Mengabdi 2026 team, consisting of ten students: Muhammad Khoeruddaffa, Muhammad Yasfa Al Mutaqi, Rizky Nur Hayati, Septiana Isro Paulila, Sonya Andriana Putri Wardhani, Devita Anggraeni, Amilia Putri Wibowo, Sad Surya Angga, Annisa Sandiena Fitra, and Muhammad Rahbar Hakimi, representing the Sports Science Education, Pancasila and Civic Education, and Elementary School Teacher Education programs.
The program was developed in response to the rapid advancement of information and communication technology, which has been accompanied by a growing number of cyber threats and digital crimes. Through this initiative, the PLK students and Bambanglipuro Police sought to improve the community's digital awareness and encourage the responsible and safe use of digital technology.
According to Muhammad Rahbar Hakimi, leader of the Aksara Bhakti PLK UNY Mengabdi team, the awareness program was organized to address growing concerns among both the student team and the local community regarding the increasing number of cybercrime cases, particularly online scams circulating through social media platforms.
The event was recently held at the Pendopo of Tangkilan Hamlet, Sumbermulyo Village, Bambanglipuro District, Bantul Regency. It brought together PLK UNY students, officers from Bambanglipuro Sector Police—including IPTU Purwanta, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, and BRIPTU Septian Nur Cholis, S.H., who served as guest speakers—along with local youth, community members, village officials, and community leaders.
The program proceeded successfully, featuring informative presentations followed by an interactive discussion session with participants. Beyond increasing public awareness and understanding of cybercrime, the activity also served as a platform for collaboration between university students, law enforcement, and the local community in promoting a safe and secure digital environment. Through this partnership, the students demonstrated their active contribution to sustainable community development.
This cybercrime awareness initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by promoting the rule of law, strengthening public awareness of digital security, and helping prevent cyber-enabled crimes. The collaboration among university students, the police, and the local community also reflects the principles of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering multi-stakeholder cooperation to address shared societal challenges and build safer, more resilient communities.
