Students and lecturers from the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) Study Program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted a community service initiative on May 26–27, 2025, by assisting adaptive physical education activities at several Special Needs Schools (SLB) across Yogyakarta. The project served as a final assignment for the Adaptive Physical Education course and was integrated into a community service program led by the course’s teaching team.
The activity was carried out simultaneously in six schools: SLB Negeri 2 Yogyakarta, SLB Yapenas, SLB Bangun Putra, SLB Negeri 1 Sleman, SLB Negeri 1 Yogyakarta, and SLB/A Yaketunis. The initiative allowed students to apply classroom knowledge while gaining hands-on experience in delivering physical education in inclusive settings requiring empathy and specialized approaches.
Prof. Dr. Sugeng Purwanto, M.Pd., head of the implementation team, emphasized that the program reflects the university’s commitment to inclusive education and meaningful community engagement. “This is our contribution to the community and an opportunity for students to bring their knowledge to life,” he said. The collaboration highlights the importance of inclusive practices in physical education and prepares future educators to teach with compassion and adaptability.
