Firmansyah, Customer and Training Development Department Head of Hino Motor Sales Indonesia (HMSI), delivered a public lecture to Automotive Engineering Education students of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the UNY Rectorate. The session focused on the technical and economic impact of the Common Rail System, a modern fuel injection technology for diesel engines.
The Common Rail System significantly enhances engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions control. Firmansyah highlighted its core components—Supply Pump, Common Rail, and Injector—along with supporting elements such as sensors, actuators, and the Engine Control Unit (ECU). “These components work synergistically to ensure precise fuel injection under high pressure, leading to better combustion efficiency, smoother engine operation, and cleaner exhaust emissions,” he explained.
Introduced by Hino in the mid-1990s with the Raising Ranger truck, the Common Rail System was first marketed in Indonesia in 2013. It has since evolved with the launch of the New Generation Ranger in 2015, featuring expanded capabilities.
Firmansyah also elaborated on Hino Indonesia Partnership School (HIPS), an initiative partnering with vocational high schools (SMKs) and universities to develop skilled mechanics for the aftersales segment of Hino's growing business. "The availability of competent human resources is a key to sustainable business growth and unlocking further opportunities in the aftersales sector," he stated, emphasizing the importance of long-term educational collaborations to prepare future talent.
The public lecture also served to inform students about trends in the automotive industry, current challenges, and emerging opportunities for innovation. It aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, equipping students with insights into the professional environment and future career pathways
