Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues its commitment to spiritual development by organizing the 2025 Seleksi Tilawatil Qur’an (STQ). The event not only selects representatives for the National Student Qur’an Recitation Competition (MTQ MN) at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat this October but also serves as a platform for nurturing students' Qur’anic character.

According to Dr. Iis Prasetyo, M.M., Secretary of the Directorate of Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni, STQ goes beyond competition. “It’s about integrating knowledge, faith, and ethics—encouraging students to truly live by Qur’anic values,” he said during the event at the Magister-Doctoral FMIPA UNY Ballroom. STQ aims to cultivate a well-rounded spiritual identity alongside intellectual growth.

UNY’s participation in MTQ MN reflects not only technical excellence but also the depth of spiritual and moral understanding. Dr. Iis emphasized that UNY’s delegation should represent the intellectual-spiritual soul of the university, and that the Qur’anic spirit must be inclusive—embraced by all faculties and communities.

STQ 2025 features diverse competition branches, including Tilawah, Tartil, Hifzhil Qur’an, Scientific Writing, Qur’anic App Design, Calligraphy, and Qur’an-themed debates. Through this wide scope, UNY aspires to make the Qur’an not only a source of recitation, but a foundation for academic inspiration, ethical conduct, and collective identity.
