To mark its 61st anniversary, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) embraced the spirit of gratitude and community by holding a special social service event at SMPN 12 Yogyakarta. Organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Research and Community Service (DRPM) and UNY’s Central Dharma Wanita Association (DWP), the event reflected the university’s commitment to not just academic excellence, but also genuine care for the surrounding community.

Prof. Dr. Yudik Prasetyo, M.Kes., Director of DRPM, emphasized the deeper meaning behind the event. "This gathering is a heartfelt expression of gratitude for UNY’s journey so far and a reaffirmation of our dedication to education, research, and community service—the core pillars of higher education," he shared. Through such initiatives, UNY continues to extend its reach beyond campus walls, building stronger bonds with local residents.

UNY Rector Prof. Dr. Sumaryanto further inspired the attendees by highlighting the importance of preserving and nurturing the ‘4K’—Keraton (palace), Kampus (campus), Kantor (office), and Kampung (village)—a vision championed by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. "Being here is part of our responsibility to respect cultural heritage while strengthening our role in the broader community," the Rector remarked warmly.

The lively event featured a mix of educational activities, free health services, and cultural performances that engaged both students and local families. It wasn’t just about giving back—it was about celebrating together, and sowing seeds for a stronger, more connected society. This effort is part of UNY’s larger mission to develop “Kampung Emas” (Golden Villages) starting from Bumijo, creating spaces where education, culture, and community thrive hand in hand.

Yogyakarta Mayor Dr. Hasto Wardoyo applauded UNY's heartfelt efforts. He praised the university’s continuous support for local development, noting how initiatives like these enrich the lives of residents and create lasting positive impacts. In a heartfelt atmosphere filled with smiles and laughter, UNY once again proved that education is most powerful when shared with the community it serves.
