According to the recent release, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta has won the best ten position in the best university category in Indonesia according to the international university ranking agency University Ranking (UniRank). UNY won the sixth position out of 576 universities in Indonesia and ranked 65th in Asia. Unirank's version of the university ranking, which used to be called 4ICU, reflects the popularity of a university-based on the popularity of its website. The online popularity of a university, as seen from the popularity of its web, is increasingly needed nowadays when the internet is one of the primary sources of information for the community.

UNY has made several improvements to keep the ranking up, including backlinks, namely how many referrals from other websites to UNY and increasing lecturer research citing internal sources via the website. The potential to increase the number of readers in prospective new students by promoting UNY at the beginning of the year. The UNY website is also quite informative in providing information to the public, which makes public trust in UNY increase. The Central Information Commission has given this acknowledgment, which awarded UNY as an informative state university.

According to the Vice-Rector for Planning and Cooperation of UNY, Prof. Siswantoyo, this achievement is one of the results of transforming from the spirit of awakening to welcome changes. "This is in accordance with UNY's jargon, namely creative excellence and sustainable innovation," said Siswantoyo.
The 4ICU Institute is an international higher education directory based in Australia reviews accredited world universities. The 4ICU institute ranks 10,200 universities in 200 countries. The popularity ranking is measured based on five parameters: Google Page Rank, Alexa Traffic Rank, Majestic Seo Referring Domains, Majestic Seo Citation Flow, and Majestic Seo Trust Flow.
