Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues to strengthen its commitment to building a sustainable campus through the provision of two Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations located on the Rectorate grounds and at the Faculty of Engineering (FT), each with a capacity of 1 kW. The presence of these facilities is part of UNY’s efforts to support the acceleration of the electric vehicle ecosystem while providing supporting infrastructure for members of the academic community and campus guests who use electric vehicles.
The EV Charging Station at the Rectorate Building serves the charging needs of electric vehicle users carrying out activities at the university’s administrative center. Meanwhile, the EV Charging Station at the Faculty of Engineering not only functions as a charging facility, but also serves as a learning and research development medium for students, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, automotive engineering, and renewable energy.
Director of UNY’s Directorate of Infrastructure, Facilities, and Assets (PSA), Prof. Slamet Widodo, said the provision of electric vehicle infrastructure is a concrete step by UNY to support the transition toward a green campus while keeping pace with the development of increasingly environmentally friendly transportation technology. “UNY is committed to providing facilities that support environmental sustainability. The presence of these two EV Charging Stations is part of the development of campus infrastructure that is adaptive to technological advancement while also supporting the government’s policy to accelerate the use of battery-based electric vehicles. We hope these facilities can be optimally utilized by members of the academic community and guests who use electric vehicles,” said the Faculty of Engineering professor on Friday, July 17, 2026.
Prof. Slamet further explained that the EV Charging Station at the Faculty of Engineering also has strategic value as a practice-based learning facility. Students can use the facility to study electric vehicle charging systems, energy management, and the development of technologies relevant to industrial needs. The development of electric vehicle infrastructure at UNY is part of the university’s transformation toward a smart and sustainable campus, which not only provides modern facilities but also encourages a culture of cleaner and more efficient energy use. Going forward, UNY will continue to develop various supporting facilities in line with the principles of sustainable development and technological innovation.
The provision of EV Charging Stations is one form of UNY’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through the development of electric vehicle infrastructure, UNY contributes to SDG 7 on Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13 on Climate Action, while strengthening its transformation toward a smart, green, and sustainable campus.
With the presence of the two EV Charging Stations, UNY is increasingly prepared to become a campus that is responsive to the development of future transportation technology while making a concrete contribution to reducing carbon emissions through the use of electric vehicles.
