Krokot or purslane plants (Portulaca oleracea L) are plants that grow wild. It grow well even on dry land thanks to its good adaptability to harsh environment. Unfortunately this plant mostly become unwanted weed in annually crop. The good news is that this plant actually has the potential for herbal cosmetic. This valuable information has driven Silviana Nugraheni and Ranum Wanudya Yunas from chemical study program, Ratna Puji Rahayu from accounting program and Aulawi Nulad Utami from economic education study program to process krokot as antiaging face cream.

According to Silviana Nugraheni they process purslane extract into a face cream because of its high nutritional and antioxidant properties. "Purslane is enriched with various substances such as KCI, KSO4, KNO3, Nicotinic acid, tannin, saponin, vitamins A, B, C, 1-noradrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine, dopa," Silviana said. Antioxidants as beneficial substances for the human body one of which is for skin rejuvenation,  cancer prevention, reducing acne, increasing collagen, and antiaging.

Ratna Puji Rahayu added, the availability of purslane plants in Indonesia is quite abundant and has not been used as a product that has a high selling value. The advantages of this product are it contains extracts of purslane plants that contain antioxidants as antidotes to free radicals so that the skin becomes bright and nourished, affordable prices, and practical. "In addition, facial cream products with purslane extract are not yet available in the market, so it has the potential to be developed as a unique product because it comes from plants that are widely available in Indonesia," she explained.

Ranum Wanudya Yunas explained how to make this cream. The materials needed are 90% ethanol, cetyl alcohol, stearic acid, triethanolamine, glycerin, paraffin, adeps lanae, propyl paraben, methyl paraben, purslane extract, distilled water, masks, gloves, aluminum foil and filter paper. The manufacturing of purslane plant extracts is divided into two phases namely the water phase and the oil phase.

Aulawi Nulad Utami said that the products produced were in the form of anti-aging face cream based on extracts of purslane plants called Macea. "This cream contains antioxidants, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids and glycosides which are rich in high antioxidant content that maintains healthy skin on the face," she said. This anti-aging face cream can last for 1 year. This work won the Directorate of Higher Education funding in the Entrepreneurship Student Creativity Program in 2019. (Dedy)
