In the year 2016, Yogyakarta State University (YSU) once again made a collaboration with USINEC (U.S./Indonesia Education Consortium) in hosting Intensive English Course for 77 hours to enhance the English skill of 72 YSU lecturers. The course was delivered in 4 materials, consisting of academic writing, public speaking, cultural class, and article consultation session. Held for three weeks from 18 July to 5 August 2016, the program invited two instructors from the US, namely Sally Jane Kloppe and Sandra Kay Stroo.
On Friday (5/8/2016), which was the last day of training, the Office of International Affairs and Partnerships (OIAP) and Institute of Educational Development and Quality Assurance as the organizing institutions (LPPMP) held a Closing Ceremony of Intensive English Course 2016 in LPPMP. Attending the agenda were the Rector, Vice Rector I, Vice Rector II, Vice Rector IV, and Director of LPPMP.
Than, at the Giving Testimonial session, Dr. Denise Priantinah as the representative of YSU lecturers participating in the course, expressed her opinion regarding this program, which according to her, was positive and able to expand the English skill of the participants.
Sandra Kay Stroo as the instructor for academic writing also revealed “To be honest, you are indeed the true teachers for us. We, the instructors, learnt so many things from you. Our gratitude also goes to the buddy teachers who have helped prepare the materials in the class.”
Prof. Dr. Rochmat Wahab, M.Pd., MA as the YSU Rector also ascertained “We do welcome the opportunity for continues collaboration with USINEC, namely by joint-collaboration in organizing English course which invites native speakers. For the knowledge they shared, Sandra and Sally are now part of our big family” In the end, the official closing of the Intensive English Course 2016 was led by the YSU Rector and giving of Token of Appreciation to the two instructors.
Several names were also announced as the most active participant in each class. The most active participant in Public Speaking class was Rr. Chusnu Syarifa Kusuma for the morning session, and Eka Ary Wibawa for the afternoon session. Meanwhile, in Academic Writing class, the most active participant was Andian Ari Anggraini for the morning session, and Dr. Denise Priantinah for the afternoon session. (Wulan)
