Cultivating Sports as a Healthy and Fit Lifestyle

On Monday, September 9, 2024, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) celebrated the 41st National Sports Day (Haornas) with full spirit. The event, which was held in the Rectorate yard, began with mass gymnastics involving the entire UNY academic community, ranging from lecturers, education staff, to students. Haornas is an important moment to reaffirm the importance of exercise as part of a healthy and fit lifestyle. Moreover, this celebration also supports the strengthening of the national sports system as a whole.

UNY Rector, Prof. Sumaryanto, officially opened the event with a blow of the whistle, which was accompanied by the enthusiasm of the gymnastics participants. Not just a commemoration, this event also became an awarding event for outstanding students in the field of sports. Some of the names that were appreciated included Jones Pratama, a student of Health and Recreation Physical Education, who won first place in Men's Doubles Field Tennis at Pomnas 2023, and Nuha Khoirunnisa from the Biology Education study program, who won first place in the Women's Team Bridge event at Pomnas 2023.

In addition, awards were also given to five students who were struggling in PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra in 2024. They are Shallma Lushiana (1st winner of Pencak Silat Tanding Class E Female Asean University Games 2024), Zulfa Khoirina Dewi (1st winner of Archery Recurve Team Female Asean University Games 2024), Lisnawanto Putra Aditya (1st winner of Archery Recurve Team Male Asean University Games 2024), Rafli Feby Putra Tri Prasetyo (1st winner of Men's Double Field Tennis Pomnas 2023), and Sukma Lintang Cahyani (1st winner of Rock Climbing Lead Individual Female Pomnas 2023).

Chairman of the UNY Haornas Committee, Dr. Kristiyono, emphasized that this activity is an annual agenda that aims to promote sports among the community, as well as foster a culture of healthy living. More than 200 door prizes were distributed to participants as a form of appreciation, adding to the festive atmosphere of this celebration.

Haornas at UNY is not just a celebration, but also an important momentum to instill the spirit of exercise in everyday life, in order to realize a healthy, fit and productive society.
