Onten Purbasari, a student with a deaf disability, successfully defended her thesis entitled Learning of Fine Arts and Characteristics of Fine Art Works of Deaf Students of SLB Ma'arif Muntilan in front of the final examination examiners on June 14, 2023. Sari, her nickname, is a student of the Fine Arts Education Study Program, Faculty of Language, Arts and Culture UNY class of 2019. Sari presented her research results and answered the examiners' questions using sign language in front of the board of examiners consisting of Eni Puji Astuti, S.Sn., M.Sn., Rony Siswo Setiaji, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Dr. Zulfi Hendri, S.Pd., M.Sn. During the exam process, Sari was accompanied by Khairil Mursyidin, a student of the Special Education Study Program who the UNY Disability Center assigned to be a sign language interpreter.

Eni Puji Astuti, S.Sn., M.Sn., as the supervisor, stated that Sari was an eager student in the guidance. At the beginning of the writing, the writing was still not good because many sentences did not follow scientific writing guidelines. However, Sari did not give up hope to continue to improve her writing to make it better. Sari has a high motivation to show that art teachers for deaf students must have good competence in communication and have a variety of teaching methods and insights into creating art. Furthermore, Eni said that since the beginning of college, Sari also aspires to become an art teacher for deaf children and wants to motivate deaf students who like to draw and make drawing fun.

Dr. Ishartiwi, M.Pd. as the head of the UNY Disability Center, stated that Sari's success in completing her thesis showed that UNY provides inclusive education services for students with disabilities and that the obstacles faced by people with disabilities are not an obstacle in participating in education at UNY in all study programs. Ishartiwi stated that the Disability Center is ready to assist students with disabilities in registering until they complete their education at UNY. Currently, the UNY Disability Center is also assisting in completing the final project for students with intellectual disabilities in the Sports Coaching Education Study Program.
