Perseverance and determination have led Yasmin Nur Haniifah to a remarkable achievement. The student with a physical disability has successfully passed Indonesia’s 2026 National Test-Based Admission (SNBT) and has been admitted to the Undergraduate Program in Special Education at the Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY).

Yasmin’s success demonstrates that physical limitations do not stand in the way of pursuing higher education and achieving one’s aspirations. Through hard work, disciplined study habits, and strong support from her family and school, the young woman, born on March 11, 2008, earned her place as a new student at UNY. A resident of Sleman, Yasmin explained that she did not undergo any special preparation for the SNBT. Instead, she attended tutoring sessions for the Academic Competency Test (TKA) at the beginning of Grade 11 and continued studying independently at home.

The daughter of Haryanto and Ni Made Leli chose the Special Education program because of her desire to deepen her understanding of inclusive education and contribute to improving educational services for children with special needs. Her personal experience as a person with a disability has strengthened her commitment to promoting equal access to education for everyone.

“I am very grateful to have been accepted at UNY, especially in the Special Education program. I hope to learn more about inclusive education and contribute to creating a learning environment that is welcoming and accessible for all students,” said the graduate of SMAN 2 Ngaglik Sleman on Wednesday (July 1).

Nur Azizah, Ph.D., Secretary of the UNY Disability Services Center (PLD), praised Yasmin’s achievement. She emphasized that Yasmin’s success proves that students with disabilities have the same opportunities to excel when provided with inclusive educational access and appropriate support.

“Yasmin’s achievement demonstrates the extraordinary potential of persons with disabilities to grow and succeed. Higher education should be an inclusive space, free from discrimination. UNY remains committed to creating an academic environment where every student can learn, develop, and achieve their fullest potential,” she said.

Nur Azizah further explained that the UNY Disability Services Center coordinates with lecturers and academic departments to provide accommodations tailored to students’ individual needs. These include accessible learning materials in digital, audio, or Braille formats, additional examination time, modified assessment methods, final examination assistance, sign language interpretation services, and support for assistive technologies. Beyond academic support, the center also offers counseling services for students, parents, lecturers, and university staff.

Yasmin’s accomplishment is expected to inspire other students, particularly those with disabilities, to believe in their abilities and pursue their dreams with confidence. Her journey highlights how determination, hard work, and equal opportunities can open the door to a brighter future.

Yasmin Nur Haniifah’s achievement also reinforces UNY’s commitment to promoting inclusive higher education and ensuring equitable access to quality education for all members of society. Her success serves as a powerful reminder that diversity is a strength that can foster achievement and generate meaningful contributions to the nation.
