R. Dedy Herdito, M.M., a Public Relations Officer from the Sub-Directorate of Public Relations and Promotions at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), delivered a presentation on university admissions at MA Nurul Ummah on Tuesday, December 24. The event, held at the Joglo in the boys' dormitory complex of Nurul Ummah Islamic Boarding School, was attended by approximately 174 students across grades 10 to 12.
“This is the first time we have invited representatives from a university. Previously, we only organized campus expos featuring alumni of MA Nurul Ummah who had enrolled in various universities. However, due to its perceived ineffectiveness, we decided to invite representatives directly from the campus,” explained Eko Prayogo, the event coordinator.
During the session, Dedy outlined detailed information about UNY’s programs and faculties, including the alignment of various study programs with senior high school majors. “UNY offers 14 D4 programs and 66 undergraduate programs across 9 faculties and 1 graduate school. These faculties include FIPP, FBSB, FMIPA, Fishipol, FIKK, FT, FEB, Vocational Studies, and the Graduate School, with the newest addition being the Faculty of Medicine,” he stated.
He also highlighted the programs requiring portfolios, such as sports and arts, discussed high-demand majors with competitive entry requirements, and shared insights into the campus facilities. Additionally, he mentioned UNY’s vibrant student life, featuring over 35 student organizations and extracurricular groups.
“UNY provides various scholarships, including the KIP-K Scholarship and Bayan Peduli. The KIP-K Scholarship has been granted to over a thousand UNY students by the government, while Bayan Peduli, funded by Bayan Resources, is awarded to a select number of students,” he added.
The students’ enthusiasm was evident during the Q&A session, where many engaged actively with the presentation. The event aims to inspire students from MA Nurul Ummah to pursue higher education, particularly at UNY, fostering greater interest in enrolling in public universities.
