Scholarship recipients from Pertamina’s Sobat Bumi (SoBi) program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) successfully held the second installment of their "Sustainable Energy, Beautiful Village" initiative in Kampung Emas, Iroyudan Hamlet. In celebration of Pertamina's 67th anniversary, the event featured the planting of 100 teak saplings, demonstrating a commitment to environmental conservation and community empowerment through collaboration with Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) Lebah Emas. Kampung Emas was chosen as the planting site due to its semi-clay soil, well-suited for deep-rooted teak trees, and its strong local assets, including Taman Jati Larangan tourism and the proactive KWT Lebah Emas, which focuses on women’s empowerment and environmental preservation.

“This tree-planting activity is not only a reforestation effort but also an opportunity to optimize local potential and empower the community through collaboration with KWT Lebah Emas and Iroyudan residents,” explained Nugraha Rizqi, the SoBi UNY Coordinator.

The event began with the symbolic handover of teak saplings by SoBi UNY Mentor Dr. Drs. Ir. Darmono, MT., IPM., ASEAN Eng., to Muhammad Hisyam, Head of Iroyudan Hamlet. This was followed by an educational session led by SoBi UNY, covering the ecological benefits of teak trees, effective planting techniques, and the importance of environmental stewardship as part of reforestation and climate crisis mitigation.

The tree-planting process involved over 35 participants, including students, local residents, environmental groups, and KWT Lebah Emas members. Together, they prepared the planting sites and carried out the activity with enthusiasm and teamwork. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the Hamlet Head and supporting collaborators.

Expressing his gratitude, Muhammad Hisyam remarked, “We are deeply thankful for this greening initiative. May programs like this inspire and bring long-term benefits to both the community and the environment.”

Dr. Darmono also expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “This activity, God willing, will provide significant contributions to the environment, particularly in Iroyudan Hamlet, Pajangan, Bantul.”

This program exemplifies the transformative impact of collaboration among students, communities, and corporations. By prioritizing reforestation and sustainability, SoBi UNY is committed to initiating similar programs, driving meaningful change for a greener and better future.
