YSU FACULTY OF SCIENCE STUDENT JOINS AVEC 2016 IN THAILAND

Singgih Bekti Worsito (Mechatronic Education) and Catur Adi Nugroho (Information and Telematics Education ) from the Faculty of Science (FT) Yogyakarta State University joint the ASEAN Vocational and Engineering Camp (AVEC) 016 (3-10/07-2016) which was held by Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMUTL), Thailand. Their participation in this event was also due to the fact that FT is a part of the Regional Association for Vocational Teacher Education in East and Southeast Asia.

AVEC 2016 is an international camp intended for the students with technical background to enhance their creativity through technological design projects. This camp has the purpose of motivating and inspiring young engineer in the creative-design and also takes part in the cooperation forum and communication between the vocational in ASEAN. The main focus of this camp is to teach the implementation of IoT –Internet of Things. Beside Indonesia and Thailand, other countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Laos.

Catur Adi Nugroho told the PR team that his participation was realy demanding for creativity and cooperation. “There, we were divided into groups with the students from other countries,” he said.
“We were asked to find a solution for the problems around the RMUTL campus,” he said.

“Our group created an App called MyAssistant. This App’s function is to give recommendation during bad weather especially for the staffs who work outdoor,” said Catur.
“The entire group projects were put into display and presented, Alhamdulillah, after passing all the steps, our prototype design, MyAssistant, was declared as the Best-Technique App.

“One of the main things that we learn during this camp was that the making of application or software with emphasize on user perspective sometimes comes from the desire and the intention of the creator himself,” as remarked by Catur.
“Beside the technical stuff, during the camp we also learned a lot about the language and the understanding ASEAN culture.” Catur closes. (hryo)
