To improve learning outcome, it is important to work more on the learning media. A good learning media will help teaching process into a more efficient experience, less time consuming and less cost due to wide range of uses. Such learning media will be fit in with school who applied thematic learning.  Thus, learning media based on pop-up book is worth to consider. Compared with conventional book, pop-up book will give a new experience for students thanks to the 3D feature. Students can be directly involved and participate in the teaching and learning process. Besides that the unique shape and colorful feature will attract the attention of students, so that it will be more eager to learn. At this point, Mei Dina Rahmawati, Navi Atul Gempita and Indah Suwaidah decided to developed EPO (Ecosystems Pop-Up Book) learning media for thematic learning materials consisting of Indonesian Language and Science in grade V elementary school.

According to Mei Dina Rahmawati as a learning aid, the media can play a role in supporting the use of learning methods that will be applied by teachers so that the delivery of learning materials can be more effective and efficient. "The learning media must be in accordance with the analysis of the needs and characteristics of learning, the development of elementary school students' learning and taking into account measuring tools for student learning success," said Mei. Elementary students are students who are in the stage of developing concrete operational thinking, which they still think with things that are concrete (real). Therefore EPO media is useful for introducing ecosystems to students. Navi Atul Gempita added that Pop-Up Book is a book that has moving parts or has 3-dimensional elements and provides an interesting visualization of stories, starting from the appearance of images that can move when the page is opened. "Pop Up Book is very synonymous with the world of children, namely playing," said Navi. Media Pop Up Book provides learning material that can provide more interesting visualizations to students.

Indah Suwaidah explained, the materials used in making EPO were scissors, glue, asturo paper, paperboard and ivory paper. "The way to make it is to first determine the theme, sub-theme and learning as material to be made into a pop up book," said Indah. Then the design is made according to the material with the CorelDraw application or can also use other design applications. The design is made as attractive as possible with many images and colors. The size of the paper in the design is adjusted to the sheet of pop up book, A4. Print designs that have already been printed using ivory paper. Then the cardboard paper is cut into A4 size the number of pages of the desired book. Cover cardboard with colorful asturo paper, one asturo paper can be used to combine 2 pieces of cardboard that had been cut. After the pages of the book are finished, then cut out the printed designs based on their shape. Paste the image using glue according to the page. The technique of sticking to the drawing uses pop up techniques. Finally, paste the shape of the letter that will be used as the title and image for the cover, wait until the glue is perfectly attached and the pop-up book is ready. This work won research funding from the Faculty of Education at UNY. (Dedy; Tj.Lak)
