Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) conducted an academic visit to SMP Labschool of UNY as part of its efforts to enhance educational quality and foster international collaboration. The delegation, comprising 20 UPM students led by Dr. Muhammad Arsyaf Che Amat, Head of the Department of Counsellor Education & Counselling Psychology, was warmly welcomed by the Lab school management, including Dr. Eva Imania, M.Pd., Head of the Educational Psychology and Guidance Laboratory at Faculty of Education and Pschology of  UNY.

The visit began with a speech from the Deputy Principal, Sofyan Dwi Nugroho, M.Pd., emphasizing the role of schools in shaping students’ futures and highlighting the value of benchmarking for exchanging best practices in education.

A key focus of the visit was the exchange of knowledge in school counseling. Dr. Muhammad Arsyaf Che Amat shared insights into UPM’s programs and stressed the importance of international collaboration in advancing counseling initiatives. Labschool’s holistic counseling approach, presented by Fadhila Yudhi Haninditya, S.Pd., integrates psychological, social, and academic support to help students overcome challenges and reach their potential. Discussions between UPM students and Labschool educators generated valuable ideas for future program development.

In addition to academic activities, the UPM delegation toured the Labschool campus, a cultural heritage site in Yogyakarta, offering insights into Indonesia’s educational and cultural history.

Looking ahead, SMP Labschool UNY plans to expand by opening SMA Labschool UNY in the 2025/2026 academic year. This new senior high school aims to provide a supportive and innovative environment, further enriching Labschool’s educational ecosystem
