Four delegates from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted an official visit to Yunnan Minzu University (YMU), China, from 30 November to 4 December 2025 to strengthen academic and cultural cooperation and to collect alumni tracer study data.
The UNY delegation consisted of Prof. Dr. Guntur, M.Pd., and Dr. Hedi Ardiyanto Hermawan, S.Pd., M.Or., from the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences, as well as Ella Wulandari, M.A., Ph.D., and Silmi Tara Azizah, M.Pd., from the Faculty of Languages, Arts, and Culture. They were welcomed by the Dean and Vice Dean of the Southeast Asian Study Center of YMU, Professor Zhao Junhai and Ms. Jin Yi. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), student and faculty exchange, and joint research and publications.
Led by Prof. Dr. Guntur, M.Pd., Director of Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs at UNY, the delegation also met with UNY alumni currently studying at YMU and distributed a tracer study link to collect graduate user data. The meeting was attended by YMU students who are scheduled to participate in a credit transfer program to UNY in 2026 under the BIPA partnership. This alumni gathering marked an initial step toward establishing a UNY alumni community in China to support the promotion of Indonesian education and cultural exchange abroad.
Beyond formal meetings, the delegation organized a Workshop on Indonesian Traditional Games as a form of culture-based recreational sport, led by Dr. Hedi Ardiyanto Hermawan. Participants were introduced to and directly engaged in playing traditional Indonesian games, such as engklek and gobak sodor, while learning about their educational values and cultural philosophies.
The workshop highlighted the social meanings of traditional games and their potential integration into cross-cultural learning. The visit concluded with a campus tour and intensive discussions to formulate priority cooperation programs between UNY and YMU for implementation in 2026.
