MOU SIGNING OF UNY WITH KRATON OF YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta State University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Yogyakarta Palace at Royal Ambarrukmo, on Tuesday March 5. This activity took place at the international symposium of Javanese culture and the Kraton Yogyakarta manuscript. The signing of the memorandum of understanding was carried out by the King of Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and Rector of UNY, Sutrisna Wibawa. Sultan said that if every university which has a faculty of cultural sciences or a center of Javanese studies especially in the field of Javanese literature and philology, the manuscripts stored in the Widyobudoyo area and the Sonobudoyo museum could be revealed more quickly for the sake of the present.

The rector of UNY, Sutrisna Wibawa, welcomed the invitation of the Kraton of Yogyakarta to study the manuscripts there. "UNY also prepares character education based on local wisdom," said the rector. The palace is the source of existing manuscripts, where it can be developed for the formation of students' character. The procedure is philology which is changed the letters, translated and reviewed. The rector gave input to the Kraton of Yogyakarta to form a team of several universities so that the manuscript could be reviewed from various fields. The hope is that this manuscript can contribute extraordinary things especially in the fields of culture and education.

The memorandum of understanding discussed the collaboration between UNY and the Kraton of Yogyakarta in the fields of education, research, community service, and the development of resources and the study of Javanese manuscripts. (Dedy, terj.Syarif)
