Thousands of members of the Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) academic community gathered across the campus area this morning to participate in the Fun and Healthy Walk held in celebration of the university’s 62nd Anniversary. The event was officially opened by the Rector of UNY through a symbolic flag-off ceremony in front of the Rectorate Building.
In his remarks, the Rector of UNY, Prof. Dr. Sumaryanto, M.Kes., AIFO., expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in organizing the event. “Ladies and gentlemen, while walking, please take a look around carefully—above, below, left, and right—to see what still needs improvement so that UNY remains clean and continues to foster outstanding, creative, and sustainably innovative individuals. May the institution prosper and its community thrive,” said the Rector.
Participants were officially flagged off by the Chairperson of the UNY Board of Trustees, Prof. Suyanto, and followed a specially designed 4.4-kilometer route around the Karangmalang campus. The route started from the Rectorate Building, passed through the artistic environment of the Faculty of Languages, Arts, and Culture (FBSB), continued to the Faculty of Engineering (FT) as a symbol of technological innovation, and ended back at the finish line. The route not only promoted physical well-being but also provided an opportunity for participants to appreciate the development of campus facilities and the university’s green environment.
The atmosphere became even more festive with the distribution of more than 200 door prizes. The prizes ranged from practical household items to grand prizes, including three electric motorcycles. One of the lucky winners was Yazid Kamal, a public relations internship student at UNY, who successfully took home one of the electric motorcycles.
This activity also directly reflected UNY’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The healthy walk initiative represented the implementation of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), while the Rector’s message about maintaining campus cleanliness and the use of electric motorcycles as prizes aligned with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and the transition toward clean energy initiatives.
The excitement of the event was also felt by Najmi Zahir, a student from FBSB. “The event was extraordinary. The euphoria was very lively and meaningful for me,” said Najmi. He expressed his hope that the spirit of collaboration and togetherness would continue to grow as UNY advances toward becoming a world-class education university.
During the event, numerous door prizes provided by sponsors were distributed. One of the grand prize winners, Yazid Kamal, expressed his happiness after receiving the electric motorcycle. “I hope it will be useful in supporting my studies at UNY,” he said.
