Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has formalized a collaborative agreement with the Yogyakarta City Government, underscoring its commitment to community-focused initiatives. Represented by Vice Rector for Cooperation and Information Systems, Prof. Soni Nopembri, Ph.D., UNY signed the partnership contract on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Hotel Tara, Yogyakarta. This agreement aligns with UNY's dedication to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, emphasizing education, research, and community service.
UNY highlighted "Thematic Villages" as a potential model for the collaboration, aiming to leverage the experiences of higher education institutions in similar programs. This initiative seeks to foster extensive collaboration opportunities for universities to implement programs directly benefiting Yogyakarta's residents.
Yogyakarta Mayor, Dr. Hasto Wardoyo, addressed pressing urban challenges, notably waste management, and called upon academic institutions for assistance. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in building synergy to tackle such issues effectively. The partnership is envisioned as a platform for universities to contribute their expertise and resources toward sustainable solutions for the city's problems.
This collaboration marks a significant step in UNY's ongoing efforts to engage with local communities and apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges. By working closely with the Yogyakarta City Government, UNY aims to develop and implement programs that not only address immediate community needs but also promote long-term societal well-being.
