CV. Smart Batik Indonesia, a Yogyakarta-based company founded by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) alumni, was invited to the Innovation Festival (InnovFest) Suzhou 2024. Organized by the National University of Singapore Research Institute (NUSRI) Suzhou and supported by NUS Enterprise, the festival serves as a global platform connecting Chinese tech companies with international innovations. Since 2015, InnovFest has drawn over 4,600 participants from 2,400 organizations and showcased more than 430 innovative technology projects from over ten countries. This year’s theme revolved around "AI & Digitalization" and "Sustainability."

Smart Batik, represented by CEO Miftahudin Nur Ihsan and COO Dinar Indah Lufita Sari, highlighted their groundbreaking work in eco-friendly batik production. Ihsan and Dinar, both alumni of UNY’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, began their entrepreneurial journey after their marriage. Ihsan, a 2016 graduate of the Chemistry Education program, and Dinar, a 2018 graduate of the Chemistry program, have developed sustainable innovations in the batik industry.

Ihsan expressed gratitude for the opportunity, attributing their invitation to a recommendation by the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP RI). Over the past year, Smart Batik has collaborated with partners such as Bank Indonesia DIY, the DIY Regional Government, the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP Kelapa Sawit), and others to produce eco-friendly batik using palm wax and natural dyes. “We are thankful to NUSRI Suzhou and LPDP RI for this opportunity. This initiative allows us to introduce Indonesian Batik to a global audience while promoting sustainability,” he remarked.

Dinar elaborated on their efforts during the festival, emphasizing education about Indonesian batik and the 3P business model they implement. “We showcased the rich heritage of Indonesian Batik and explained our commitment to the 3P principles: People, Profit, and Planet,” she shared.

This event marks a significant milestone for Smart Batik in promoting eco-friendly innovations while preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage on the international stage.
