The Rector of Yogyakarta State University, Prof. Dr. Sutrisna Wibawa, M.Pd. inaugurated and swore in the officials at YSU (2/5),one of them was the Vice Rector I who previously served by Wardan Suyanto, MA., Ed.D and now was replaced by Dr. Margana, M.Hum., MA. In his speech, the Rector of YSU said that this mandatory inauguration was due to the acceleration and refresh program in YSU. "This activity is part of the management routine that includes  replacement" said Sutrisna Wibawa.

Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Drs. H. Muhammad Nasir, M.Si, Ak, Ph.D, CA officially inaugurated  Prof. Dr. Sutrisna Wibawa, M.Pd as the Rector Yogyakarta State University from 2017 to 2021. Inauguration ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 23, 2017 at 13:30 pm in the Auditorium Building, 2nd Floor, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Sudirman Street, Senayan, Jakarta.

On 20-21 March 2017, the Office of International Affairs and Partnership (KUIK) organized the 9th Global Culture Festival (GCF). This event is an opportunity to introduce the tourism, arts, and Indonesian culture to the international community, as well as introducing the culture of various countries in the world to the people of Indonesia, especially Yogyakarta. GCF held in 2017 took the theme of "Environmental Sustainability and Cultural Awareness for Peace and Equality". GCF cultural displays ranged from 29 provinces in Indonesia.

Saturday (18/3), after being crowned as The Third Winner in SEM Asia Pacific 2017 in Singapore, Garuda UNY Eco Team has also been named as one of the selected participants (recommended) to follow the Driver's World Championship (DWC) in the Asia Pacific Regional.

Bimasena team from the Division of Design (DRB) Technology Engineering Student Activity Unit YSU ranked 6^th from 26 participants in the event Bridge Design Competition. The competition took place at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (4-5 / 03-2017). Besides landing the 6^th rank and the 5^th runner up, Bimasena team also ranked two in the category of favourite bridge with the highest number Facebook Like and the Best University.

The YSU team which consists of Rizal Justian Setiawan (Mechanical Engineering), Ageng Widi Atmoko (Electrical Engineering Education), Ein Juliani (English Language and Literature), Dea Sakinah Hulfa (Physics) and Enny Dwi Cahyanti (Chemistry) secured the third place and won a bronze medal in the event of Johor International Invention, Innovation and Design (IIID Johor) Competition 2017 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia held from 8-9 March 2017 in Amansari Residence Resort, Johor Bahru.

To enhance partnership relations in the framework of institutional development by utilizing the resources related to the field of the Three Pillars of Higher Education and the empowerment of human resources, the Indonesia Defence University in cooperation with the Yogyakarta State University. The cooperation is applied in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides that was held in the Meeting Room of the Senate, the Office of the Rector of Yogyakarta State University (23/2). The MoU signing was done by the Rector of YSU, Prof. Dr.

Upon completion of the Internship Program of the Faculty of Sport Sciences YSU with the Universiti of Malaya (UM), Cecelia Roannie, student of Exercise Faculty of Sport Center Universiti of Malaya Malaysia, gained more insight and knowledge at the FSS YSU especially in Physical Therapy Massage. Moreover, Cecelia claimed that she has got a lot of knowledge and experience that is 'totally new' during the Internship Program since 5 September 2016 until February 12, 2017. According to her, nowadays in Malaysia Physiotherapy is often found, unlike massage therapy that she got at FSS YSU.
