On Monday, September 9, 2024, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) celebrated the 41st National Sports Day (Haornas) with full spirit. The event, which was held in the Rectorate yard, began with mass gymnastics involving the entire UNY academic community, ranging from lecturers, education staff, to students. Haornas is an important moment to reaffirm the importance of exercise as part of a healthy and fit lifestyle. Moreover, this celebration also supports the strengthening of the national sports system as a whole.

Recovering from minor sports injuries with massage therapy and exercise therapy

"Massage therapy and exercise therapy can be used to treat minor injuries to the limbs for recovery for sportsmen in preparing a fit physical condition in preparation for training, competing and after competing," said Professor of Sports Injury Therapy and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences UNY, Prof. Dr. Ali Satia Graha, M.Kes Monday (8/4).

Achieving Sustainable Development Goals at UNY through Sports

UNY organizes morning exercises every Friday. The gymnastics are attended by the academic community of UNY, including lecturers, education staff and students.

Gymnastics instructor Fitri from Hana Gymnastics School said that today's gymnastics began with the opening of Diabetic Gymnastics 3, followed by Aerobic Gymnastics.

Saga Independent Gymnastics Makes the Elderly More Independent, Healthy, and Fit

Older people experience significant changes physically, psychologically, and socially. These changes certainly affect all aspects of older people's life, including health. Rifky Riyandi Prastyawan tried to develop gymnastic movements that could improve the physical fitness and psychological and social wellbeing of older people in his dissertation research. According to him, these older adults deserve a healthier life if they get the right gymnastic exercise pattern. In addition, if older people remain healthy and fit, they can live independently without depending on others.

The Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has been ongoing since early 2020, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 19 (SARS-CoV-2). By 2023, there were more than 61 million confirmed cases in Southeast Asia; by May 2023, around 767 million people worldwide were infected. As of May 31, Indonesia has reported more than 6.8 million positive cases of Covid-19, with a death toll of around 161 thousand. However, the number of Covid-19 survivors is also quite large. As many as 87.4% of survivors still feel persistent symptoms, including chronic fatigue and shortness of breath.

UNY Students' Achievements in National Woodball Championship for Higher Education

Woodball entered Indonesia in 2002, and on 2006 the Indonesia Woodball Association (IWBA) was born. Woodball has similarities with golf. In terms of equipment, Woodball uses balls, mallets, and gates, which are all made of wood. Historically, golf clubs are made of wood. But nowadays, most golfers use golf clubs made of steel, titanium, and other metals or carbon fiber. In terms of gameplay, if golf puts the ball in the hole, then woodball puts the ball into the gate.
