Students of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMNS), Yogyakarta State University (YSU), namely Herianto from Natural Science Education, Lailatul Fitriyah from Biology Education and Arum Wiranti from Chemistry initiated Qur'anic Studies App for students of junior high schools / madrasah tsanawiyah. The application was entitled “Integrating Science and Religion through Autoplay Media Studio-based Learning Media Development for Natural Sciences on the Material ‘Human Creation’.
Indonesia is one of the countries often hit by natural disasters, one of which is flood. Flood is caused mostly by irresponsible littering, leading to clogged drains or aqueduct. The problem of flood actually can be resolved with ease if factors causing the flood can be seen directly. In fact, this issue becomes much more complicated because most of the aqueducts are closed, making it quite hard to check.
SMEs have become one of the important aspects in the economy in Indonesia. Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2009 shows that SMEs account for 56.92% of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Indonesia, or equivalent to Rp 1213.25 trillion. SMEs, in Indonesia, generally do not have the financial information that is transparent and well organized, making the credit providers face difficulties in obtaining information on their financial condition and business.
Plastic is the most often material used in the society. Both rural and urban societies depend much on the use of plastic, namely plastic bag. Plastic has some advantages, including light-weight, flexible, and easy to use. Unfortunately, it also has several weaknesses, as it causes abundant plastic waste. A large number of plastic waste causes environmental pollution, where plastic takes 200-400 or even 1000 years to decompose. These problems eventually motivated five students of Yogyakarta State University (YSU) to innovate by utilizing plastic waste for making pretty graduation dolls.
People tend to consume foods that contain high carbohydrates and saturated fats such as deep fried foods which are potential to build up high cholesterol. People have been familiar to consume carbohydrates more than proteins and fibers. This is evidenced by the composition of carbohydrate consumption in Indonesia that is still around 70 – 80% of the total daily calories, whereas it actually should be 45 – 60% of total daily calories. In our metabolism, excessive carbohydrate will be converted into fats.
In the recent years, 2013 Curriculum (K13) and School-Based Curriculum (KTSP) have been enacted in schools. Both curricula require quality learning process, with the use of proper learning. A group of students of the Faculty of Education, Yogyakarta State University (YSU) responded to such a quality improvement challenge by conducting research with the title Media Development of Si-Kbayan with the theme of “The Beauty of Togetherness” for Grade IV Elementary School Students. Surprisingly, the research were granted fund from the Ministry of Research and Higher Education.
The vision of Yogyakarta State University (YSU) towards World Class Educational University can be realized with the support of internalization of all academic circle, including the students. In order to realize such support, in this year of 2016, YSU sends 8 of their students to join the international forum of Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) International Camps in Thailand from 19 until 25 June 2016.
Garuda UNY Racing Team (GURT) has just launched its racing car, the Formula Garuda 16 (FG-16) at Wisma Djoglo Sleman(15/8). FG16 is an improvement from the previous iteration, the F-15. FG-16 is scheduled to race on 6-10 September 2016 in the Student Formula Japan in Shizuoka Japan. This event will be the meeting ground for the universities team all around the world. Student Formula Japan is one of the 10 series of the Student Formula from all continents in the world under the Society Automotive Engineering (SAE). This event will put the design capabilities from all teams to the test.
It has been almost a year since the arrival of the Darmasiswa students in Yogyakarta State University (YSU). During the one-year time, the students, consisting of 18 persons, have learned the Indonesian language and culture. After adequately mastering the material, they are allowed to return to their home countries. The students come from various countries in Asia, such as Thailand, Japan, and Korea, and some from Europe and America continents, such as Poland, Mexico, United States, and Ukraine.
